CHAMPVA provides healthcare coverage for spouses and children of veterans rated 100% Permanent and Total who do not qualify for TRICARE. The program covers medical, surgical, mental health, and prescription services with capped annual out-of-pocket costs and no premium.
CHAMPVA covers most medically necessary services including doctor visits, hospital stays, surgery, mental health care, prescription medications, durable medical equipment, emergency services, and preventive care. Annual out-of-pocket costs are capped. There are no monthly premiums.
Eligible beneficiaries include spouses and children of veterans rated 100% P&T, surviving spouses and children of veterans who died from service-connected conditions, and dependents who lost TRICARE eligibility. You cannot be eligible for both TRICARE and CHAMPVA - TRICARE takes priority.
